Although I still don't know if I can rule out a hardware problem (perhaps my laptop can't connect properly to an encrypted network and password protected) or a software problem regarding Windows 8 or either my network drivers. What intrigues me is that while I was out to quite a few places, I managed to connect to 4 different wireless hotspots, but all of these were not password protected and I don't know if they were encrypted or not.
I have also tried to disable WLAN filtering, because I was using MAC Address filtering on my router - still no luck.

Tried troubleshooting to detect problems, updating my Network Driver " Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter", uninstalling the driver and then install the latest version of it from Asus's website. I tried disabling the encryption altogether, and I was still couldn't connect.ģ. I have also tried to set encryption to TKIP instead of AES and ended up getting the same "can't connect" message.Ģ. I enter the security key and instantly get this message "Can't connect to this network". I have tried to connect to my router using WPS and I always get this message "Windows can't get setting automatically. Ok, a short recap of the things I have tried:ġ. If you want me to provide a logcat or something similar, I will do it provided that you can tell me how to do it (because I don't know all that much when it comes networks and wireless connections). I have also attached some images showing how my Huawei HG655B router is configured (perhaps there's something wrong there?), and how Network Adapters look like in "Device Manager" (is something missing there?), and lastly how the failed to connect message looks like in Windows 8. If this is relevant whatsoever, please note that my phone can connect to my router without any problems. I have also went into the "Device Manager" and uninstalled the driver for the "Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter" and then installed the latest version of it. So far I have opened the "Network troubleshooter" and try to detect problems, but I couldn't find the problem this way.
The only way I can use the internet is by connecting the router to my laptop via an Ethernet cable. The weird thing is that I can see all the wireless connections around me, including my router, but I cannot connect to it.
